The Hospital

"Remember that in this Sevashrama it is not hospital work, nursing a few patients, that is done; it is worship - worship of the Lord Himself." - Swami Turiyananda

With 230 beds and modern infrastructure it stands today as a multidimentional institution of service and spirituality.

The Beginning

Started in 1900 by a group of young men at Varanasi, inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, in a very modest way with 4 annas as capital which they got by begging. Swami Vivekananda, when he visited Varanasi in 1902, was immensely impressed to see the dedicated service of those poor but determined youth and wrote an appeal for funds.

An Appeal

We beg your acceptance of the past year's report of the Ramakrishna Home of Service, Benaras, embodying a short statement of our humble efforts towards the amelioration, however little, of the miserable state into which a good many of our fellow-beings, generally old men and women, are cast in this city.
